DAXXIFY AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
Questions or concerns? Call (808) 263-3233. Emergency symptoms: call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
What is DAXXIFY?
DAXXIFY® (daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is a prescription neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes selected facial muscles responsible for expression lines.
DAXXIFY is FDA approved for the temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. Treatment of other facial areas may be performed "off label" when your healthcare provider determines that it is medically appropriate.
When will I see results?
-
Initial effect: May begin within 1 to 2 days
-
Noticeable improvement: Usually within 3 to 5 days
-
Near-maximal effect: Typically around 7 to 14 days
-
Final assessment: Approximately 14 days after treatment
Do not judge the final result during the first several days. One side may begin responding sooner than the other, and the result may continue to become smoother and more balanced during the first two weeks.
How long will it last?
Results vary depending on the treatment area, dose, muscle strength, metabolism and previous neuromodulator use.
For single-strength dosing, results typically last about 3 months. For double-strength dosing, results may last approximately 5 to 6 months. Some patients may experience a shorter or longer duration. Results gradually soften as normal muscle movement returns.
Aftercare: for the rest of your treatment day
-
Do not rub, press or massage the treated areas.
-
Avoid facials, facial massage, microcurrent treatments or tight-fitting headwear over the injection sites.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, saunas and hot tubs for approximately 24 hours.
-
Remain upright for about four hours unless your provider instructs you otherwise.
-
Apply makeup gently after the injection sites have closed.
-
Avoid alcohol or medications that increase bruising unless medically necessary or prescribed.
Normal washing, smiling and facial movement are permitted. Do not repeatedly exercise the treated muscles unless instructed by your provider.
What is normal after treatment?
Temporary effects can include:
-
Small bumps or redness at injection sites
-
Mild tenderness, swelling or bruising
-
Headache
-
A tight, heavy or unusual facial sensation
-
Temporary unevenness while the medication is taking effect
Small injection-site bumps usually resolve within 15 to 60 minutes. Bruising may take several days to fade.
When should I contact the office?
Please contact Hawaiian Islands Dermatology at (808) 263-3233 if you develop:
-
Significant eyelid or eyebrow drooping
-
Persistent facial asymmetry after 14 days
-
Difficulty fully closing an eye
-
New or worsening dry eye, eye irritation or blurred vision
-
An unusually severe or persistent headache
-
Signs of infection, including increasing redness, warmth, swelling or drainage
-
A result that appears excessively strong or has not developed as expected
A follow-up evaluation is most useful at approximately 14 days, when the treatment has had adequate time to reach its full clinical effect. Additional treatment may not be appropriate before that time.
